We work with employers and employees to develop and improve good employment relations practices and procedures in their workplaces. Conciliation

Conciliation is a voluntary process in which the parties to a dispute agree to avail of a neutral and impartial third party to assist them in resolving their differences. The Labour Relations Commission provides a conciliation service by making available Industrial Relations Officers of the Commission to chair 'conciliation conferences'.

Workplace Mediation is geared towards disputes involving individuals or small groups of workers. It is particularly suited to issues around breakdowns in the workplace relationship and difficulties in working together. Rights Commissioners Service

Rights Commissioners operate as a service of the Labour Relations Commission and are independent in their functions. They investigate disputes, grievances and claims that individuals or small groups of workers refer under specific legislation and issue the findings of their investigations in the form of either decisions or non-binding recommendations, depending on the legislation under which a case is referred.

About the Commission

The Labour Relations Commission was established on 21 January, 1991 under section 24 of the Industrial Relations Act, 1990 and since then the Commission has been to the forefront of Industrial Dispute Avoidance and Resolution within the State.

The Mission of the Labour Relations Commission is

"To promote the development and improvement of Irish industrial relations policies, procedures and practices through the provision of appropriate, timely and effective services to employers, trade unions and employees"

New Pilot Early Resolution Service

The Labour Relations Commission is set to offer a new Pilot Early Resolution Service to employers and employees to assist them in resolving issues in dispute. The aim is to find a solution that is acceptable to both parties that will assist in the avoidance of time, stress and costs without the need for a formal adjudication hearing or inspection.
This is a conciliation/mediation type service which will be provided by Case Resolution Officers.
Agreement to use the service is voluntary.
